Cinema 4D is a 3d software by Maxon. It allows you to create very sophisticated 3d models and works hand in hand with Photoshop, Illustrator and Pixelator, among others. My favorite use of Cinema is the Mograph Text feature. This feature renders very convincing 3d type that can later be taken into Photoshop for more enhancements. Cinema 4D renders very impressive shadows on your models and two very helpful effect called Ambient Occlusion and Global Illumination.
Ambient Occlusion creates shadows within its models without including a light layer. Global Illumination brings in any reflections and some shadows from the light layers. On the 3d text model above, I used both Ambient and Global to render soft shadows and some light reflections. After I finished my 3d text model, I changed the render and save settings to output as a .png file format. That way, only the 3d model will be save and not the background. The lines are crisp and sharp. Finally, you can import it to Photoshop and do whatever you like.
Below are some earlier Cinema text models I created.
